Full Description of event/sighting: I usually get up early in the morning to go to Griffith Park and work out. I was walking west on Franklin and had crossed Normandie. A few minutes after crossing Normandie I saw a large oval object slowly moving southward. It was about the size of half a full moon as it is setting. As it moved there were sparks coming out of the rear of it. I watched it for about 30 seconds as it moved "across the street. " When it got to "the other side of the street" it shot off. I reported this to MUFON in the Los Angeles area.
The interesting thing about this is that I teach at one of the local community colleges teaching a morning class. About a week later one of my students came up to me and said that he had been coming to class late because he had the midnight to 8 AM shift at Los Angeles International Airport. I asked him if he was working on that particular day and he said he was. I asked if he had seen anything unusual at that time. He said, "Yes! We ALL saw it! We looked at it and said, 'What the heck is that???' It was way out over the ocean."
They didn't see the sparks because they saw it from a different angle than I did. When I saw it I assumed it to be about 10 or 12 miles away. I was surprised to find out it was over the ocean. From that description it must have been huge.
Thank you to the witness for the interesting report.
