Ventura, California Orange Red Glowing Cigar Shaped Object

Posted: January 21, 2008

Date: 1977 or 1978 Time: 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Location of Sighting: Santa Paula Freeway East of Ventura California. Number of witnesses: 1 Number of objects: 1 Shape of objects: Cigar shaped elongated.

Full Description of event/sighting: This is an old sighting--but I heard some UFO researcher on the Art Bell show talking about the same event a few years ago. Don't remember the name of the researcher, but when he was talking about the sighting I realized that I had seen the exact same thing, but only from the opposite direction--and that the object was between me and the other observer.

Was driving down the Santa Paula Freeway between the hours of 8:30 and 9:30 PM. Moonless night. I was just west of Santa Paula driving toward Ventura Ca. A couple of miles East of El Rio I noticed a orange-red glowing, cigar shaped object coming from the north at about an altitude of 600 to 900 feet.

I don't think the object was more than a mile from me. I stopped the car, got out and watched as it slowly flew from north to south at a slow speed. The object was slowly pulsing in intensity (glow orange-red) and occasionally dripped a yellowish flame from it's tail as it flew.

At first I thought it was a military jet in distress and on fire. But there was no jet noise. And it flew far too slow, under the stall speed of a jet aircraft.

I reached inside the car and flashed my high beams repeatedly hoping to elicit a response from the object. There was none. The craft kept on flying in a southerly direction towards the direction of Point Mugu Naval Air Station.

From the point of was standing the surrounding terrain is completely flat. The visibility was at least 15 to 20 miles because I could see the flashers on the hill side above Mugu Rock where the military tracking station was located.

The object must have flown directly overhead or very near to the Naval Base perimeter. I kept watching until the light grew dim in the distance. Total length of this sighting was no longer than two and an half minutes.

I realize this was thirty years ago and I am not certain of the year. I think it was 78. But I am certain of the shape, color, speed, direction and flame-dripping aspects of the craft.

I did not realize there was another, perhaps more witnesses until the Art Bell Show years ago. And at the time there was no way to report such things--as this web-site.

If you know who the researcher that was on the Art Bell show (I know there were many) please forward this to him. This particular case seemed important to him.

Thank you to the witness for the report.
