I’m here in Phoenix, Arizona at approximately 8:15 p.m. here on New Years Eve a party of us saw a slow green bright light with a trailing tail light up the sky, lasted for about 30 seconds as it headed north horizontally across the sky.
If you have seen anything like this in the same area please be kind enough to contact Brian Vike at: sighting@telus.net with the details of your sighting. All personal information is kept confidential.

My wife and I saw the same green bright light. I have never seen anything like it before but it was really bright and cool. Could it have been a fire ball from and asteroid? I would love to know what it is.
ReplyDeleteI was in Prescott, AZ when I saw it. It was going from southish to northish across the sky. I would describe it as moving very fast, not slow. It was green and appeared to burn out with some fragments coming off of it. (It might not have burned out but rather my view may have been obstructed by a mountain. Not sure.)
ReplyDeleteClearly looked like a big meteor to me. Was still amazing to see. Very memorable. Pretty sure it was part of the Quadrantid meteor shower.
It was sometime between 8 and 8:30 PM but don't know exact time. It lasted for about 5 seconds I'm guessing.
I could not really see a tail.
Hi Brian,
ReplyDeleteAt about 8:15pm on New years eve 2011 (yesterday)driving in Scottsdale,AZ we saw the same glowing green object with a tail. I was heading east and spotted this bright glowing light in the sky. I slowed down to watch it beacause it was so unusual.
Apparently many others in AZ saw it too. I am very curious to find out more info.
If anyone else saw it too, please share your info.
Thanks
Alan
I saw it too... A bright object that had a very long bright green tail (well, not completely green as you could see some traces of yellow in the tail). But I wouldn't say it was moving very slow at the time when I saw it. In fact, it was absolutely blazing across the sky. You see a lot of planes flying over Scottsdale and it's safe to say that this thing, whatever it was, was going at least ten times faster. This was very different than the other thing I saw flying overhead this past summer; a BIG diamond shaped craft. It was very slow and VERY close to the ground. Made a lot of noise too.
ReplyDeleteI was on the roof of the high rise next to Chase Field in downtown PHX when I saw a large green light flash diagnally across the sky in front of me. There were three others with me and we all saw it. It didn't look like it was much higher in elevation than we were and it only lasted about 2 seconds but it traveled quite a distance in that 2 seconds. No way it was a meteor not only because it was green, but because it was shooting across the sky parallel with the ground.
