Bright Orange/Amber Colored Lights In The Sky Over Pittsburgh Pennsylvania

Date:  May 5, 2012
Time:  Approx: 9:00 p.m.

My friends and I saw the saw three triangles tonight in the sky outside Pittsburgh around 9:00 p.m.

Additional Information:

I am okay if you don't look into it. I just thought I should/could report it. We tried to get photos, but the iPhones couldn't catch the lights because of the clouds, which is strange, because the lights could still be seen. One the guys in our group did have a camera, but he forgot and was so transfixed on what it was.

He later took pictures of the huge moon. So it's a shame we didn't photo or record it.

The three lights were in a perfect triangle. They were bright orange/amber. It kind of rotated, with the top two corner lights rotating clockwise very slightly.

Then, after 2-3 minutes the top right light started to flicker and slowly fade away. Then about a minute later the top right light did the same thing. And then another minute later and the bottom light did the same thing.

We didn't see it any more that night. The neighbors a couple houses down saw the same thing. There were a group of them, about 10 people.

What do you think these things are? We are all still so shocked about what we saw. Take care.

  1. My friends and I were in my front courtyard @ 3am when I noticed several amber colored lights flashing in the northern sky. They all went in the same direction in a very slow speed and made some formations and slowly disappeared. There were at least 30 lights. We were all baffled at what we were looking at.

  4. we had seen the same last night on the 4th of July, 2012. the oddest looking thing i have ever seen to say the least. the sky was heavily laden with humidity and clouds so it made it hard to see, but i can tell you this much, we had seen just one. it flew similar to a hot air balloon and not a plane. i have a constellation app on my android and when i held it up to the sky there was this glowing orange light that did show up and alot larger than i could see with the naked eye....then poof it was gone. we figured something to do with the fireworks or maybe even a hot air balloon... i jumped online the next day to see if anyone had seen that last night and maybe had an answer to what is may have been and all that i managed to find was that there are wayyyyyy too many reports of it all over the states and over the years. still no clue, just feel a little more confused now....

  5. We saw the same thing tonight - July 14 2012 - on a cloudy night at around 10 pm. Few stars could get through the cloud cover but this bright orange point of light, slightly smaller than if you held a dime at arms length away from you, was visible to the northwest. It flickered slightly but didn't move and slowly after several moments appeared further and further away until with one final blink it was gone. We were in north central pennsylvania when we saw it but a friend had also seen it on the evening of July 13 from another part of PA. The friend reports he saw it come as one, go away, come back as two, go away, and come back as a set of three. Completely unlike anything else I've ever seen in the sky.
