We saw this too. We saw at least 15-20 slowly rise from what looked like behind Reed College. Once they got to a certain height, most of them faded out while a few floated horizontally a little ways before also fading out.
We wondered about some kind of weather balloon or Chinese lantern release.

Ok. I live in Calera Alabama and tonight around 9:30 I saw what I first thought was an airplane pulling some weird lights. I pulled over on the side of the road to watch because I realized that these lights were not attached to anything. There were about 10 lights that seemed to hover together following a straight path across the sky. They were red, orange and blue and were glowing brightly. When I googled it I found this site and needless to say I am super freaked out about it now that I see other people have been seeing similar things all over the place. As I watched the lights they seemed to just disappear and then about a minute later there were two independent lights following the same path that disappeared as well. They looked like huge glowing balloons bouncing around together. I would really like to know what it was that I saw.
