Orange Ball Of Light Over Montgomery County Pennsylvania

Date:  February 7, 2012
Time:  Evening.

Hi, I came across your site when I was researching something I saw last night (February 7th).

I was looking out my window (I live in Montgomery County, PA about an hour north of Phila) when I saw an orange ball of light in the sky.

I went outside with my son to see it. It was a clear sky with sparse clouds and the object seemed low and we could see clearly that it was an orange glowing ball that appeared to have a darker orange interior.

There was no sound coming from it and no tail of any kind like a typical meteor. It was going in an east to west direction, but then quickly appeared to change direction (maybe an optical illusion), moving more to the south-west.

And very quickly, within a few seconds, it got smaller until it disappeared. The whole sighting lasted about 30-45 seconds. Any other sightings that night? Thanks.

Looked Like Flames Coming From Tail Over Montgomery County Pennsylvania

Date: November 12, 2010
Time: Approx: 4:50 p.m.

I was driving through Montgomery County, PA and saw them about 4:50pm in the western sky. One had extremely long tail and first thought I was witnessing the space shuttle. But there were at least 5 or these of various lengths.

I pulled over and did witness one that looked like it had flames coming from the tail. By 5 - 5:05pm they were gone.

I would have thought there would be more reports. I was expecting something on the news.

Sightings.com Reports Bright Red Spherical Light Over Montgomery Pennsylvania

Date: July 3, 2010
Time: Approx: 9:35 p.m.

My wife and I saw a bright red spherical light in the southwestern sky when we exited our car to view fireworks in the east. It was about 9:35 EST in Montgomery, Pennsylvania (north-central part of the state). As the fireworks began in the east, I was riveted to this bright red light arising from the south west, about 20 degrees above the horizon and very close to the planet Venus glowing in the night sky.

As a proximal point of reference, I was able to estimate that this light was about 7-8 times the size of Venus and about 3-4 times as bright and a steady glowing light red, non-pulsing, not flickering, just bright and steady. This light moved in a very gentle arc from south to north, moving fairly quickly and taking about a minute or more to move to where it appeared to start to elevate, fade slightly over the course of 5- 10 seconds and then disappear from view.

The sky was 100% clear, there had not been a cloud in the sky all day. It was impossible to estimate the size of the object or it’s distance from us, though after reading reports that are nearly identical to our experience from Ohio, Indiana and Kansas, I wonder if this wasn’t something relatively high and far and very visible over long distances. Obviously there was no sound. As it was in the western sky and the sun had set behind it, it is impossible that the light was reflected sunlight and it was so bright that we were both convinced that this was self-illuminating.
I am 53, my wife 51 and in all of our combined time on this planet we have never seen anything as unusual in the sky as this.

We are especially interested in knowing if anyone else here in PA witnessed what we did. Thanks for the website, we will continue to monitor it now.
