I saw exactly what you described at 7:00 p.m. tonight. Only difference, these ones where white, but bright, not as far as stars go, but I'll say as high as airplanes fly.
As I was watching it cruising, about 10 seconds later, it took off leaving a trail of "bright" dust. My sister came running because I yelled at her to come, and 2 minutes later she saw it as well doing the same thing, but going on another direction.
