Hi Brian, my husband and I saw this same, similar thing in the Albuquerque skies on December 31st. The item was traveling from east to west, and it was huge! We even thought we could see the item breaking apart.
Yes, there is no way it was an airplane or a firework. However, I hear there was a meteor shower in the area. My husband and I could even see the burn mark in the sky. It was crazy stuff. Glad you posted about this.
