Large Gorgeous Orange Objects Over Albuquerque New Mexico

Date:  January 4, 2012
Time:  3:00 a.m.

Good Evening, I spotted a  gorgeous large orange glow in the western sky of Albuquerque when I got up out of bed for a drink of water at 3:00 this a.m. It was completely dark, except for the twinkling light of the skyline.

This object was much, much larger and looked like an orange harvest moon, yet it is January.

Also, this 'moon' for lack of a better term, was 'setting' into the horizon line before it disappeared completely. The whole thing happened pretty slowly, over the course of a couple minutes.

It was a cloudless night and not a cloud in the sky, however, I could not see a complete sphere, as it was partially shrouded by something dark. It looked like a pie where someone had eaten 1/4 of the pie, as it was partially shrouded and also descended into the horizon before it was completely gone.

I am not usually up at 3:00 a.m., so I don't know if the moon typically 'sets' like the sun would, let's say- or, rather, as my experience dictates, is that the moon fades away from bright white to fainter white. as morning approaches.

Also, if it was the moon, would it 'set' at 3:00 a.m.? As it is January, would it be unusual to have a large glowing harvest moon visible, right before it disappears into the horizon at 3:00 a.m. in January?
