Detroit, Michigan An Object With Tail

Full Description of event/sighting: Brian, I just stumbled on to your site out of curiosity searching from an incident I experienced several years ago (approx 1983-84). I was in my mid twenties and I was working my way through college as a truck driver for a local freight carrier in Romulus, MI. I was sitting in the cab of my semi and I was backed up to a loading dock of a place I was making a delivery to located on the Detroit River in Detroit, MI just a few blocks south of the Ambassador Bridge when I noticed a very large object in the sky traveling basically parallel and horizontal to the Detroit River. It appeared to be just inside and over Windsor, Ontario border by a half a mile or so.

It was difficult to estimate the elevation and size but if I had to guess I would say it was maybe a half mile up in the sky and several hundred yards in diameter with tail much longer that it's diameter. I assumed it was a meteor however this was in the middle of the day and I watched in amazement as this traveled in a southern direction exactly horizontal for what had to be three to five miles or more until I could no longer see it. I never saw it come down, it just kept traveling till it was out of sight. Difficult to estimate speed. Not real fast not real slow just steady without directional change. I thought for sure it would make the nightly news as certainly it had to be seen by hundreds of others however, I never heard another thing about it. No one I know witnessed it. Have you any info about this. My curiosity has finally gotten the best of me after all these years.
