I'm from Northern VT and 3 of my neighbors also saw 3 bright orange lights in a triangular pattern (2 over 1) on January 14, 2012 about 18:00hr EST toward the north.
A cluster of 8 to 12 then appeared from the west. They then faded away. It's been suggested that it may have been related to the failed Russian mars probe, Phobos-Grunt, which came down around the same time. But would the debris field be that long?
