Base Police Rousted Out Around 10 Military Personal At Loring AFB UFO Incident

 Date:  Winter 1971/1972

Loring AFB UFO incident. I was stationed at Loring 1971-1975. During my first year in the winter of '71/'72 I and about ten others were rousted out of our bunks by base police and driven to what was then referred to as East Base.

This was the area where the nukes were stored. We entered the secure area and proceeded to the perimeter fence that had been damaged.

We were given snowshoes and fencing pliers. An area of about 100 feet diameter had been smashed down along with a portion of fencing.

We put on the snowshoes and tried to navigate the deep snow. None of us had ever used snowshoes before. After some time, we finally got the fence repaired and were taken back to our barracks.

We were told not to talk about this to anyone, ever. True story.

If anyone has witnessed the light/object on the date and time, and location, would you please send me an email with details of what you saw, please remember to include the date and time and location. (Town/City – State or Province)

10 To 15 Orange Colored Lights Seen Scattered In The Sky By Wright Patterson Air Force Base

Date:  October 12, 2012
Time:  Approx: 8:00 p.m.

Mr. Vike, yes we saw about 10-15 flying lantern like, on 10/12/2012.

It was too far to lantern to go up that high and shine.

Me and my son got onto form I-70 to 675 south bend. It was right by Wright Patterson Air Force Base. I was driving and my son was in passenger seat.

It was around 8:00 p.m., right after sun went down. It was scatter all over the sky. My son (21) thought one big space ship, but it was too scattered like I mention.

I really wanted to know what that was and hoped if I can share with some one what I witnessed. It was bunch. it was maybe more than 15. It just kept going up up in the sky.

Is this help you? I wished we kept video, but we were too busy to look up.

Just feel comfortable that someone else see it and share it.

If you have seen anything like this in the same area please be kind enough to contact Brian Vike at: sighting@telus.net with the details of your sighting. All personal information is kept confidential.

Also, please feel free to send in your sightings that have happened years ago. So many of these older sightings are nothing short of amazing.

2 Bright Yellow/White Lights Over Nottoway Virginia Near Fort Pickett Military Base

Date:  June 29, 2012
Time:  Approx: 11:00 p.m.

Number of witnesses: 2
Number of Objects: 2
Shape of Objects: Round lights.

Full Description of Event/Sighting: As we were watching TV the power went out. I went out side because I heard wind. I looked up and about 500 feet in the air and there were 2 bright lights, white/yellowish.

I called for my dad. Dad what are these lights he said and where did they come from. He stared at them while I got the kids to settle down. I walked away. He said to me one is gone, so I went to look at them again.

Then the other just vanished. No light trains, nothing just gone.

While a was looking at them, I had that feeling you get when some one is staring at you. It was like they were watching the storm come in and I thought the images what ever they were may have caused the storm.

If you have seen anything like this in the same area please be kind enough to contact Brian Vike at: sighting@telus.net with the details of your sighting. All personal information is kept confidential.

If anyone has witnessed the lights/objects, please send me an email with details of what you saw. Please remember to include the date and time and location. (Town/City – State or Province) and as much detail as possible.

Orange Balls Of Fire Spotted Over Maguire Air Force Base/Fort Dix New Jersey

Date:  March 21, 2012
Time:  Around 8:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Tonight at around 8:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. I was on the phone with a friend and went outside to smoke a cigarette. I'm an avid watcher of the sky, and was looking up at what I thought to be was Uranus (that's what I'm told the very bright "star" in the west has been) and I notice this orange fire-ball looking like object floating by. (no sound)

I was wondering if it was a fireball or a meteorite “thinking", I know they said were having solar flares, could this be that?" As it passed over the neighbors house, I watched it go up and disappear.

I looked back towards the south, and here was another one. I ran inside yelling to my boyfriend and 13 year old son to come outside and see. As they watched the 2nd one travel upward and disappear.

I look back and see another one coming up over the trees and then another and another, when there were 4 up in the sky. I saw the 5th, through the trees, which then joined the rest which eventually all floated northwest and disappeared.(not a sound to be heard).

My son was trying to record it on the IPhone, but his excitement was not helping. They went next door to get the neighbors, who came out and saw it, and a man driving by in a pickup stopped and my son said, "look, do you see it?"

The man he asked him, "how long have they been there?" Really freaky, after that a lot of helicopters were flying out from the same area, but not in the same direction, then nothing.

The sky was dark and clear and full of stars and 20 minutes later, towards the west, it looked like dust, fog must have been rolling in, because the dark sky was suddenly bright now after midnight, the fog is still here, and its quiet.

One thing I must mention is, I live in very close proximity to Maguire Air Force Base/Fort Dix and that was the area these balls of light were coming from.

If you have seen anything like this in the same area please be kind enough to contact Brian Vike at: sighting@telus.net with the details of your sighting. All personal information is kept confidential.

Serviceman Observes UFOs Over Moody Air Force Base Valdosta Georgia And In The North Atlantic

I was stationed at Moody Air Force base in Valdosta, Georgia in the early 70’s. My job was training student pilots in the flight simulators I was assigned to. I was making a milk run for my family one evening in 1973, driving from our house to the base convenience store.

The sky was clear and if you know anything about South Georgia you know that the lay of the land is very flat. I observed an extremely fast moving light about 30 degrees above the horizon moving roughly south to north from the air base. I slowed down to watch what I now believe to be a UFO moving across the sky at an incredible rate of speed.

I observed the object abruptly change direction by what I would estimate to be 30 to 40 degrees to the east. Within just a few seconds the object was no longer in sight. About 30 to 60 seconds later I saw two chase planes leaving the air base in what appeared to be an attempt to intercept the UFO.

The planes used to chase the object are supersonic jet training planes. What I observed was an object that was moving at what I would estimate to be at least five times faster than the jets in pursuit. Result – not even a contest. UFO was gone!

After separating from the Air Force in 1978 I worked a few odd jobs in the electronics field. I acquired a job with the Naval Oceanographic office in 1981. I was an electronic technician assigned to an oceanographic research ship that surveyed the North Atlantic.

One cloudless October evening, about 2 hours before sunset while in the North Atlantic above the Arctic Circle, I decided to take a short break while there was a lull in the ship’s activities. I walked out to the fantail of the ship and sat with my feet hanging off of the starboard side of the ship.

The water was amazingly calm and clear. About a quarter mile from the side of the ship I observed the water glowing from below which as you might imagine immediately caught my attention.

Imagine an extremely bright spotlight shining up through crystal clear ocean water from a depth that was in the neighborhood of 8-10 thousand feet deep.

Within what I estimate to be about 2-3 seconds, a sphere of white light exited the water. I would estimate the size of the object to be the size of a beach ball. As if that in itself was not amazing enough the object did not disturb the water at all upon exiting and was totally silent.

The object left the water and ascended vertically at an unbelievable rate of speed. I would estimate the time from exiting the water to moment the object disappeared from view into the clear evening sky to be less than 3 seconds.

Three Triangular Shaped UFOs Seen From The Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton California

Date: Early 1990’s
Time: Evening.

While stationed on Camp Pendleton for TAD in the early nineties for reactive armor upgrades for the AAV there, I saw something similar. I was working second shift. We were doing two twelve hour shifts to get all the mods done. During my break I walked out to the bay behind the ramp where all the vehicles were kept and I was looking at the water.

I thought I saw three triangular shaped objects in the water. There was no noise. Then I realized that what I was seeing was a reflection of something in the air. I looked up to see three smooth black triangles floating by at a constant speed in a triangular formation.

There was no light or sound and the only reason I could see them was because there was a bright moon and the reflection of the moonlight off the calm water refracted off of the bottom of the objects which were no more than 500 feet off the ground.

They were each about thirty feet from corner to corner and completely smooth as far as I could tell. I have only told this story to a few select friends because I'm still not sure what to make of it myself.

If you have seen anything like this in the same area please be kind enough to contact Brian Vike at: sighting@telus.net with the details of your sighting. All personal information is kept confidential.

Large UFO Floats Over Military Base California

Date: Summer of 1978 – 1979
Time: Evening.

This was a pretty long time ago, 32 years or so, around 1978-9. I was in my 20's.

I live in Southern California, just east of a large military base, Camp Pendleton and a naval weapons station. It has a restricted airspace, only military aircraft can fly across it’s sky or anywhere over it’s boundaries. All private and commercial craft have to go around. It's pretty heavily guarded.

It was sunset on a warm summer evening and I was coming out of an exercise class. The parking lot was (still is) on a west facing hillside. The sun was almost at the horizon, for us the low coastal mountains next to the Pacific Ocean. Very slowly, heading northwest and floating over the military base, was a huge craft of some sort. It mostly round/a little ob-longish, had a number of large very bright white and smaller colored lights on it.

The object was enormous, way bigger than the setting sun and much larger than any aircraft I have ever seen. There were 4 or 5 people getting into cars along with me and we all stopped to look at it. Someone's husband, there to pick his wife up, claimed it was a reflection from the sun off windows on a house from the sun setting. Everyone pooh-poohed him because it was next to the setting sun, you'd see a reflection like that if you looked the other direction. His statement absolutely made no sense. We stood there jabbering and excited, and looked at it for about 3-4 minutes, it wasn't going fast at all.

It turned directly north, passed in front of the highest mountain at this end of the coastal range (Case Springs), then off of base land into the Del Luz canyon area, and I noticed that some planes were coming up on it. They were way smaller than the object. Suddenly it sped up and just flat out disappeared.

Someone turned on the local radio station in Oceanside, where numerous sighting reports were being called in, and they called the military live on-the-air. A marine at the airfield on the base, who refused to have his voice aired, said that they had no aircraft up of that description and that planes had been launched to intercept an intrusion onto restricted airspace. This was relayed by the radio disc jockey. A few minutes later it was publicly denied that any of this happened by military officials. I never heard anything more about this sighting.

Never-the-less, this wasn't a weather balloon (too large and had lights), not a blimp (wrong shape and way bigger), not an airplane (there were no planes of this shape and size in the 70's), not a reflection; it was unlike anything I have ever seen before or since then. It was really really big and dwarfed not only the planes that were behind it, but the sun that set, while we watched the object. The incredible speed with which it disappeared was amazing too. One second it was there, the next it was gone.

If you have seen anything like this in the same area please be kind enough to contact Brian Vike at: sighting@telus.net with the details of your sighting. All personal information is kept confidential.

Huge UFO Hovers At 100 Feet At The South End Of Marsh Airforce Base California

Posted: January 17, 2009

Date: 1985 - Approx:
Time: Approx: 11:00 p.m.

Message: Regarding one of your sightings Murrieta, California UFO Flat/Square Or Possibly Triangular' Posted: February 9, 2008; occurred on date: February 7, 2008 Time: 2:15 a.m.

I am from Moreno Valley, CA. (15 miles from Murrieta and host to Marsh Airforce Base). I am writing because for the first time after years of casually reading about UFO's, I saw this article and besides the proximity of our cities. I also saw a similar object in 1985 approx:, I regrettably did not take note of the particulars of the incident, probably as a form of denial. This happened at night around 11pm. I have not read or heard of the description of the rectangle or pizza box shape object before this article.

I was driving a back road (Oleander Ave) that cuts right along side the south end of Marsh Airforce Base, between the 215 Freeway and Perris Blvd. I saw a huge object, hovering about 100 feet above and moving at an exceedingly slow pace. I stopped my car, step out to get a better look. It was rectangle shape (approx 20 x 50 yards) with small lights through out sporadically; along its side and bottom. It had a distinctive almost helicopter propeller blade hum, though more rhythmic and shallow. The object came to a standstill in front of where I was parked and a flood light came on and shown brightly in front of where I was parked, onto a building. After a few seconds it went off and the object proceeded directly onto March Airforce base and slowly hovered above it then turned left and went across the 215 Freeway heading west and it disappeared past some hills.

I assumed that it was some sort of military aircraft, though I have never seen anything like that before or since. The two thing I recall that were interestingly different were that I kept wanting other cars to happen by and no one drove through the road I was in during all the 5 plus minutes that this was happening. When the object banked left and over the freeway, I kept looking at the freeway for cars traveling north or south. During the whole incident no cars drove past the visible stretch of at least 1/2 mile of freeway. It was as if time had stood still. Not one car drove past on this relatively busy freeway. The other thing I found odd was thinking that this would generate some calls, or commotion that did not happen, apparently no one else saw this.

Thank you to the witness for a wonderful report.

Loring Air Force Base - I Am Looking For Servicemen Stationed In 1975

Posted: October 28, 2008

HBCC UFO Research Request: I am searching out servicemen who were stationed at the Loring Air Force Base in the year 1975. There was a mysterious incident that took place at the Loring AFB back in 1975 and I am hoping that some of the folks who were stationed at the base might come forward with any details they might have over a possible UFO sighting. What the object was, well this is certainly unknown at this point, but I sure would like people's input who served at the base in 1975 over what took place there. Also if anyone's Father or Mother and possibly a relative/friend who served at the base in 1975 and who may have heard what went on I sure would like to hear from you. I am also sure that there are folks who were not stationed at the AFB but may have some details as to what went on.

Please note, I will keep your personal information private, this would be between you and myself. But it has become very important to find others who would have some knowledge as to what was seen and what took place at the base in 1975.

You can write to me directly at hbccufo@telus.net or you are welcome to go directly to my website and file the details through the site as there are links on the front page at the left hand side of the page. There would be "Report A UFO" or "Feedback". Again I would like to mentioned that I would be the only person receiving any information that might come in to HBCC UFO Research. Thank you, Brian Vike - Director of HBCC UFO Research. (http://www.hbccufo.org) or (http://www.brianvike.com)

Adak Island, Alaska UFO Hovers (Letter, Envelope, Audio Interview)

Posted: March 30, 2008

Location Information: Adak is an island midway along the Aleutian Island chain southwest of mainland Alaska at 177 degrees west. At 52 degrees north it is not exactly arctic, nor is it temperate; but it is nearly always buffeted by cold, wet winds. Most of the wind is generated by an endless series of cyclonic storms. The weather report for aviators almost never varies: Winds 25-40 gusting to 60, mostly cloudy with layers at 800 feet, 1200 feet, 2000 feet. Visibility 7 miles, rain. Temp 40 degrees F (plus or minus 5 degrees for most of the year). It is bounded on the east and the west by volcanoes. To the west is Kanaga Volcano, a beautiful perfect cone, and to the east by Great Sitkin, which nearly always is at least smoking and erupted in the early 1970's.

View map of Adak Island: *View map of Adak Island*

Brian Vike Director of *HBCC UFO Research* had a nice telephone conversation with an ex-serviceman by the name of Art. Art was stationed on Adak Island Aleutian Islands and was part of the crash crew for the fire department. One late night in January 1976 at the airport, the control tower personnel rang the crash crew and told the members that an aircraft was going to be landing. The crash crew members jumped up and peered out the window and did not see an airplane of any kind, but rather a glowing object approximately 50 feet across. (Art told me it was the brightest light that he has ever seen in his life)

Art said it was really eerie to watch, and the humming that came from the UFO, seemed to resonate throughout all of the crash teams bodies. One has to remember that the crash team was still inside their building when they could feel the humming, but they eventually did move outside and stood approximately 100 feet away from this huge and extremely bright UFO which was hovering just over the tarmac pretty much in front of the control tower and of course all the men watching.

As everyone stood looking at this unidentified object, more bright lights about the size of a Volkswagen came from out of the hovering UFO and flew at an incredible fast rate of speed up to a communication station which was located on a nearby hill and sat stationary on it. Another light went down and hovered over the bunkers. After a period of time the lights that were zipping around did come back to the main object and merged into it. All of a sudden the large UFO took off at such a high rate of speed it left all of the personnel watching it dumfounded. As Art mentioned, we have nothing here on earth that could move as quickly as this thing did and I would certainly be in agreement with Art on this.

The control tower called the crash crew and asked, "what the hell was that"! The crew replied back, it was a UFO! Art remembers one of the personnel in the control tower cursing, as this was something one does not see every day, and he also mentioned that the object was as bright as the sun and lit up the entire area as if it was daylight.

Art said, they were really frightened, they were young men at the time, Art being 19 years old. The thirteen men stood looking at one another saying, "what the heck was that"?

Soon afterwards, or after the event was over which left a lot of men scratching their heads, the officer of the day showed up and confronted the men and told them what they all saw was "Ball Lightning". Art's response to the officer of the day was, if that was ball lightning, then it had to be the largest display of lightning on record. Art also said he would be more than willing to sit down and take a lie detector test to provide what he is relating is the truth.

He also mentioned that there were people taking pictures of the object. He could not remember who these people were, but when the pictures came back, Art remembers everyone looking at them and seeing nothing but a bright, camera flash type light in each of the photos. One just wasn't able to see anything other than this brilliant white light.

Art also figures the object sat stationary just feet about the tarmac for 10 to 15 minutes. This object wasn't flying by, it was sitting still for a long period of time in front of all these men. Also he said that the UFO incident was placed into the crash crews logbook and also in the control tower's logbook as well.

Art sat down on another day following the sighting and wrote a letter to his family back home. This was a personal letter, asking how things were, etc, then Art added that he saw a UFO. He described just a little about what he saw.

You can view the letter by clicking on the following link. I also should add that HBCC UFO Research has not removed any of the names or information. I asked Art if I should remove names and he told me to leave the letter as is. The family members who are mentioned in this letter have passed away. I have also added a link to the envelope the letter came in. After the family members passed on a lot of their possessions were given back to family and this is how Art came into possession again of his letter.

View Art's letter he sent to the family: *Art's Letter To His Family*

Also you can view the envelope Art's letter came in which has the postal dated stamp on it: *Art's Envelope He Sent The Letter In To His Family*

The letter and the envelope are copyrighted 2008 to Art.

You also can listen to the telephone interview I did with Art over the UFO sighting at Adak Island, Aleutian Islands Alaska. The interview is 23:31 minutes in length. More can be heard by listening to the audio portion of this report.

Telephone Interview:
http://hbccufo.org/videos/Art.mp3

The audio interview is copyrighted 2008 to HBCC UFO Research.

On a side note, separate from the sighting Art and the other men had. Art told me about another time when a Coast Guard ship docked at Adak Island where he was stationed, and he and others were handling the tying up of the Coast Guard ship. After the ship was docked and the Coast Guard crew were coming off the ship, one of the sailors stopped and talked to Art and the other men, saying you would not believe what just happened as the Coast Guard ship was coming into port. A UFO came straight up and out of the water in front of the ship and kept traveling straight up. The sailor said the craft was anywhere from 50 to 100 feet in width. The ship immediately scrambled and went into general quarters. The sailor said he was as white as a sheet, from the sounds of things, the entire crew was pretty freaked out over the incident. Also I should add, this UFO incident happened prior to what Art and the others folks witnessed.

Thank you to Art for a fascinating report, the letter, envelope and telephone conversation.

Loring Air Force Base UFO Incident

Posted: March 27, 2008

HBCC UFO Research Note: Thank you to the serviceman who sent this information into me, I would really like to hear from any other serviceman or woman who served at the Loring AFB who had witnessed the objects over the base, or who may have knowledge of these sightings. I do have a number of reports from serviceman on the UFO incidents from Loring. You welcome to email Brian Vike, Director of HBCC UFO Research at: hbccufo@telus.net

Any names that are provided in the report below HBCC UFO Research has changed the names to protect the privacy of the individuals.
Brian, I just came across the information concerning the Loring incident. In October of 1975 I was working at Loring in the WSA. I know of nothing first hand - if you are still interested I would be glad to pass on what I can remember that was second hand.

Additional Information:

Brian, that was a very long time ago and my memory of what happened is far from clear. I was an NCO assigned to SRAM maintenance in the Integrated Maintenance Facility in the Weapons Storage Area. I lived in Base House at Presque Isle (this was actually a former Air Force Facility that they had retained the housing). There were three of us (from Presque Isle) that car pooled together, one named (Ben) who worked in the same building as I and the other (whose name I can't recall) worked in a building adjacent to the weapon storage area. I believe it was some sort of logistic function. The weapons storage area was very remote from the rest of the base and the logistic group was the only other group near the weapons storage area. As I recall the actual weapon storage area we used was a small section of a much larger storage area.

The part we didn't use was abandoned and we were sectioned off by a separate fence. There were also a few abandoned buildings within the weapon storage area that were also abandoned and separately fenced off. One in particular comes to mind that was completely sealed, no windows and the door welded shut. I believe their were numerous other abandoned buildings near the older abandoned part of the weapons storage area. At any rate as I recall the incidents (the visits from the UFO) occurred over a few nights. I believe I became aware of these from our car pooler who worked in logistics. He seemed to be aware of more of what was going on.

I don't believe he was assigned to the 42nd munitions maintenance as we normally had limited contact with the rest of the base although most of the personnel lived on base. On the morning of the last/most significant visit I probably was with the early group at the guard gate that walked up to our facility, possibly I may have been the one who stated that their must of been another UFO. I believe the car pooler from the logistics' group may have told us about the earlier events and at some point indicated that it was a helicopter (of course he had not seen it and was only telling us what he had been told). I can recall the discussions about the security police asking to shoot at it and being told not to despite the UFO about sitting on one of the weapons storage structures (Igloo).

I also recall the commanding officer (I don't recall if it was the base commander or munitions squadron commander) coming to the weapons storage area while the UFO was there or just after. I believe the security police may have told me that. I don't recall being called up to the squadron headquarters and being told that anything, but I probably just don't remember that. I think the car pooler from the logistics group had told us that they had obtained/ordered some type of flares that they were going to use to deter the helicopter if it came back. I don't recall anything about Air Force helicopters being brought in, but I may not have been aware of that or just don't remember. I thought a group of fighter aircraft were assigned to the base following this last incident and were there because of the incident, presumably to react in the even of another visit. But of course that a long time ago and my memory could be flawed.

I hope this is of some use. If you have questions please feel free to ask me.

Thank you very much to the person who sent in the important information.

Huge UFO Sighted - 1959 USAF SAC Base, Goose Bay, Labrador

Posted: February 9, 2008

History: Goose Bay, affectionately known as "The Goose", is located in Canada's far north. Labrador is the largest geographical portion of the province of Newfoundland, covering 294,330 square kilometers with a population of just over 30,000. At one time, it was home to SAC's 95th Strategic Wing.

Air Force Combat Wing Histories (official USAF history) states that the 95th Bomb Wing Medium was established June 4, 1952 and activated on June 16. It was redesignated 95th Bomb Wing Heavy on Nov. 8, 1952. Apparently it was originally slated for B-47s, but was instead assigned B-36s, which it flew from 1953 to 1959. It flew B-52s from 1959 to 1966. It was discontinued and inactive on June 25, 1966. All of this took place at Biggs AFB, Texas.

It was reactivated as the 95th Strategic Wing on August. 8, 1966 at Goose Bay. At that time, the wing was flying KC-135 tankers. It was inactivated on September 30, 1976.

Huge UFO Sighted On August 1959 USAF SAC Base, Goose Bay, Labrador

HBCC UFO Research Request: If anyone who was working/serving at the base and has any knowledge of this UFO incident or anyother UFO events that has taken place on or near the base would you be kind enough to contact Brian Vike at HBCC UFO Research - http://www.hbccufo.org

Hello Mr. Vike.

This is the report of the 1959 UFO sighting which I told you about. I will give you my name and sighting location first. My name is (witnesses name and mailing address removed). The event happened at the USAF SAC Base (long since abandoned by the Yanks, but still in operation by NATO) at Goose Bay, Labrador. I have reported it to MUFON a couple years ago, but other than that I have not mentioned it to anyone. I have of course thought of it thousands of times over the years (more than 47 years in fact - a long time). I have been trying to find a UFO report describing the same type of craft for a long time, however I have been unsuccessful in that regard. Nothing comes close. Here is the description of the event. Distance is stated in feet and miles. Remember how it use to be ?

August 1959 USAF SAC Base, Goose Bay, Labrador. At the time I was 22 years old and a Newfoundlander working in the Motor Pool on the Base. The event happened at approximately 0300 hours. I had been called out to drive two (2) visiting USAF pilots to a lake near the Pine Tree Radar Base (approximately 25 - 30 miles from the Air Base) to do some fishing before they returned to their home base. I was driving a jeep and we had just reached the outskirts of the Air Base. From there to the Pine Tree Mountain there was nothing but pure wilderness. Not a light to be seen except the headlights from the jeep and there were tall trees on both sides of the road. We were driving along when the passenger in the right hand seat said "what the hell is that". I looked out my window and saw something coming over the trees and I immediately stopped the jeep in the middle of the road and all three of us got out. What we saw was unbelievable. I will not say that it was a certain size, all I can say is that it was "big". I know it blocked out the sky above us. At that latitude the sky is beginning to lighten up a bit in August, however not really light enough to tell what shape the object was. The trees along the road I would guess to be about 100 feet (a 1959 measurement) and the craft was flying just above the tree tops. It was fling parallel to the ground and going very slow. It make a slight humming sound, but it did not make any other noise. There were no flashing lights what so ever. What it did have was three large round lit areas running in a straight line.

I would guess that each one was about 25 - 30 feet in diameter. The space between each was the same distance. Actually the size of the lights (I suppose that is what they were) and the distance between was probably greater than I have stated. I am guessing the distance because of the width of the road which was 45 feet. There were no light rays or spot lights. The lit areas reminded me of looking at a window with a shade pulled down from a distance. The color was a yellow/white, but leaning more to the white. I can state all this with great clarity because there was only about 150 feet between the craft and the ground.

It moved very slowly and took a good 45 - 60 seconds to cross the width of the road. After it reached the opposite side of the road it disappeared from sight, because of the tall trees. I immediately turned the jeep around and went back to where the tree line ended which was about a half mile from the nearest runway. The object was still very close to where we were on the road. We watched it proceed at the same altitude for about one half to three quarters of a mile. This distance took the object in over the outskirts on the Air Base where it took a slight turn upwards over the Base. When it was about at the center of the Base the object took a sharp turn upward at the same lazy speed. Actually it did not go straight upward, but took a spiraling route of about one mile circumference (probably larger). It seems to be getting a good look at the Base and if there was intelligence on board, it seemed to be daring someone to go and have a look. Actually I never thought of those two items' until much later.

We were too busy wondering what it was. The Control Tower was notified by my two way radio. The people in the tower saw the object, however no one did anything about it, or did not seem to care anything about it. Goose Bay was not a fighter base, but was more of a long range bomber and aircraft refueling operation. There were lots of A/C, but as far as I know there were no aircraft on alert. Finally the object disappeared from sight. The whole experience lasted about 20 minutes. Project Blue Book was in operation at the time, however I did not know that until years later. Every Base was suppose to have an officer on strength who was suppose to investigate such matters. I never heard from anybody.

There is an entry in Blue Book about the Goose Bay sighting for August 10, 1959. It was made by an RCAF jet pilot (the RCAF occupied about one third of the base and was separate from the US side) however it was not the same day or the same object. I have been calling the sighting an "object" for a reason which would be 1959 vintage. If somebody has said to me, did you see a UFO? I would have answered, what is a UFO? I knew that we were seeing something unusual, however not once did it enter my mind that it was something called a "UFO". You probably wondering why this is fresh in my memory after all this time. After a few years (I had joined the RCAF in 1960) had passed and I realized what had transpired, I took down some details in a notebook. Also, I shall never forget even the smallest detail of what I saw that night. I can still see what I saw that very large craft coming in just above the tree tops. I do not know what I saw that night, but I would guess that it was not man made. It was not an aircraft, (fixed wing or helicopter), it was not a balloon (weather or any other kind). No balloon was ever that big anyway.

If it had been a fixed winged aircraft it would have made alot of noise and would have long ago crashed into the ground. As far as the helicopter is concerned, it could travel slow, however the noise would show it for what it was. Anyway back in 1959 that type of craft was not near as popular as it is today. As for the balloon, who in their right mind would fly a balloon over a military base at 0300 hours even in 1959 (when security was much, much slacker than it is now). Whatever it was, it certainly did not belong to the Goose Bay Air Base. I had been over almost every foot of road and in all the hangers and had seen nothing ever close to being as large as the craft in question.

I cannot see this being some kind of hoax. Back in 1959 who would have bothered because not much was publicized about UFOs. Who would bother to go to such an isolated area just to have it seen by three people. As it happened, it was just by a very slim chance that it was even seen by me and the other two.
The tower was alerted by me and the only other people awake at that time would be the MPs (maybe) on the main gate and maybe a few other people all of whom would probably be inside working. Even if some people were working on the flight line, etc., would they be looking up got a UFO. Not likely. I believe that you can dive into Goose Bay via a new road at present, however in 1959 that part of Newfoundland was completely isolated except for air travel and the seaport which is open only during the Spring and Summer months )due to Fall and Winter freeze up).

End.
