Date: March 21, 2006 Time: Approx: 9:00 p.m.
I saw same lights as reported in Kokomo last night. I watch night sky alot and have never seen anything like this. What is going on?
Additional Information: Dear Brian, On Tuesday night of this week (3/21/2006) I was starting to walk dog leaving house at approx 9:00pm Indiana time. I immediately noticed a bright amber-orange light to the west through some trees in my neighbors yard. It attracted my attention simply because of the intensity and unusual color. Similar to those bright amber street lights. I pretty much wrote it off as a nose light on a Grissom AFB stratotanker, perhaps banking into a turn for landing at the local AFB. About 30 minutes later at the conclusion of my dog walk again to the west I noticed brighter and more intense orange lights of which 3-4 seemed to appear and then disappear.
They seemed to arc slightly and were only visible for 4-6 seconds. They seemed pretty far away, did not appear to be fireworks, but had that same color of amber fireworks and no sound. After seeing these lights I really thought perhaps I had witnessed either a plane fire, engine coming off a jet or something falling out of the sky like a military flare release. I came home and told my wife and turned on the TV, half expecting to see a news release of a plane crash. Nothing showed up on the news, so I went online to see what I could find. I typed in amber lights and found mainly websites about UFOs, which strangely seemed to coincide with what I saw. I found your web site and reported what I seemed to see.
I am still bothered by what I saw, because I called the Grissom AFB the next morning and talked to the public affairs officer and he stated they do not use flares during missions or refueling operations since if would be dangerous with all that fuel, I asked him if any A-10 were in the area releasing flares. And he stated that no, they only do that over proving grounds. He then asked me to describe what I saw and I gave him a brief description, he said that was interesting because another person had called saying he had described exactly the same thing I saw.
I didn't report this to your service, but I went out the following evening to look at the sky because it has been unusually clear skies lately, sort of rare here this time of year at about the same time 9:00 pm the night of 3/22/2006 I spotted 4 separate bright orange lights at random times, and randomly dispersed through the sky unlike the first night. I know what commercial planes look like, I know what satellites look like, I know what helicopters look like, I have seen northern lights, falling stars comets etc., and nothing has been like these "lights" I went out last night ( Thursday) but it was too cloudy to see anything.
Thank you to the witness for the very interesting report.
Also this was the second person to report these lights. You can read another report from someone else who saw the very same thing on the same date and around the same time.
