Vancouver, Washington Bright Light

Posted: January 19, 2008

Date: August 18, 2006 Time: 9:40 p.m.

Location of Sighting: Orchards in my back yard. Number of witnesses: 4 Number of objects: 1 Shape of objects: Bright light.

Full Description of event/sighting: I was watching for satellites. I saw a bright object moving from east to west and directly over my house. It seemed to be consistent with the speed of satellite, but much brighter and larger, moving, gliding and no noise. I ran in to get my son, nephew and brother in law. We all saw the same thing. I also tried to video it but only got a quick shot. The object seemed to be about 20K/30K feet up, hard to tell but, alot lower and brighter than any satellite which I see often. After it went over the house and passed, it started getting dimmer. After another 10-15 seconds as the total time we watched was 30 seconds. Then it quickly was consistent with high speed acceleration, which is what we all agree it did. It made a 10 degree turn to the south and quickly dimmed out of site.

Now I see and watch for satellites and they always tend to go south to north. This originated from about the nine o'clock position looking due west just off Jupiter. I caught it when it was over my house just passing through some trees. Were still in awe as we all listened for sound. It was silent and didn't have any additional navigational lights, ie: plane? There were none.

We see alot of planes coming into Portland but this object was illuminated very bright and completely solid. No flickering, huge star-like is all I can say. It was 20 times a satellite in brightness and size, which is what I originally thought it could be. I know of a web site that you can input the GPS coordinates of your town and see if there were satellites or solar flares or other orbit objects going over? I just thought I would let you guys know. Oregon must still be interesting to something out there? I hope someone else saw it, as it was impressive.

Thank you to the witness for the report.
