Orland Park, Illinois Two Bright Red Star-Like Objects

Posted: January 13, 2008

Date: September 30, 2005 Time: 11:25 p.m.

Number of witnesses: 3 Number of objects: 2 Shape of objects: Too small to identify a shape.

Full Description of event/sighting: At approximately 11:25 p.m. a friend called me to tell me to look outside at the sky to the east. Easily identifiable to the naked eye were 2 bright red "stars." Neither were moving. After 5 minutes or so they started to dim and then reappear and when I went inside for a moment to grab a camera they were gone when I returned. I'm a little familiar with Doppler shift and this wasn't that. These dots were bright red and very easy to see. I have never seen anything this red and bright in the sky.

Additional Information:

Sorry I wasn't more descriptive before. I just looked again for a reference point. If this makes sense..they were about 3/4 the way up off the horizon in reference to the Little Dipper, so not very high in the sky. The skies are clear and its about 55 degrees outside. They didn't twinkle, but they started to kind of fade in and out. I know how sometimes a star can seem reddish but these were way too bright for that, and they disappeared.

I had my camera at first and took a picture but it didn't work because of the flash. I put that down in the house and came back out. Then it occurred to me to try a picture without the flash, but when I went to get it they were gone when I got back.

Thank you to the witness for their report.
