We saw it too, in the CA Bay Area, flying across the sky and burning out above the horizon. Huge and definitely a meteor, that is, a shooting star. When shooting stars pass close to the earth and through our atmosphere, they look huge (they probably are pretty big!).
And shooting stars are common, which is why it's not really news, you can see one or two pretty much any time you look at a night sky for longer than a few minutes, even when there isn't a big meteor shower going on.
When you think how far away those are, it's not surprising that when one shoots close by us, it looks huge. It was very cool to see it.
Witness was referring to a sighting report from another person who saw this, report can be found here: Fremont, California Fireball/Meteor Sighting - http://unitedstatesufo.blogspot.com/2008/06/fremont-california-fireballmeteor.html
If you have seen anything like this in the same area please be kind enough to contact Brian Vike at: sighting@telus.net with the details of your sighting. All personal information is kept confidential.
