Bright Orange Object Seen Over Murrieta California

Date: January 12, 2011
Time: Approx: 8:40 p.m.

Hi there, my husband and I both saw something very similar last night on January 12, 2011 at about 8:40pm. Looking up at the stars (directly into Orion's belt) we saw something that looked like a really large star, bright orange traveling about 20,000 feet up. It was moving slowly across the sky like an airplane would.

My husband assumed it was a helicopter, but there was no sound. It appeared to just stop moving and then it "dropped" something from it that looked like a fainter and smaller version of what we were looking at. The smaller one appeared to fall straight down and burn out. Then it "dropped" another, same thing happened.

Finally it appeared to break into 2 parts that were of equal size and brightness. One of the parts began to quickly fall straight down looking like it was going to hit something. It disappeared, so who knows where it went? The 'main' one stayed high in the sky and burned out. Who knows that the heck that was, but it was not army skydivers with flares! Hope this helps and would love to know what it was.

If you have seen anything like this in the same area please be kind enough to contact Brian Vike at: sighting@telus.net with the details of your sighting. All personal information is kept confidential.
