The same exact thing just happened to me. Around 8:00 a.m., Pacific time, Northern California, a ball of fire with multi colors came shooting down between my house and a neighbors.
The ball of fire stopped seconds before hitting the tree and disappeared into thin air. I thought it was a shooting star too, until reading this post.

I have a video of this from mesa arizona this was no meteor these things move faster than the the sr 71 or stealth bomber
